Coming to therapy can seem like a big step. But in my experience with clients, it is usually the beginning of a liberating time when past and present concerns can be expressed and understood with emotions examined and transmuted.
Learning how to accept and navigate difficult life situations can be really beneficial, as you discover what choices are available to you in how to handle difficult emotions and thought patterns. Many of our core beliefs were formed when we were young and not fully conscious of the choices we were making about our world. Therapy gives you the chance to look at yourself and your issues in new ways.
Acceptance of oneself as we really are is one of the most powerful approaches to healing as beyond the conditioned and constant chatter of our mind lies a truer experience of ourselves.
It is this authenticity that I will explore with you in order for you to realise and experience yourself fully and create the life choices that are right for you.
I am a fully qualified therapist and creative counsellor working with adults and young people.
My approach focuses on the emotion behind people’s stories, listening compassionately to my clients to help them understand and transmute whatever issue is causing them stress, anxiety or trauma.
Every client is unique with their own particular story and set of circumstances. My aim is to bring a deep focus and clarity to sessions to help people navigate through their issues.
My training to date has been in Emotion Focused Therapy and Gestalt. This uses a person-centred, humanistic approach to therapy and involves establishing a strong, safe therapeutic relationship between therapist and client to discover the truth of any situation.
Curiosity and choice are central to this type of therapy, as well as unconditional acceptance of oneself – exactly how you are, not how you think you should be.
This past year, due to the pandemic, I have been focusing on bereavement and loss therapy in my private practice and have also been volunteering with the bereavement charity Cruse.
I work with a variety of people’s issues including anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship and identity issues and have counselled young people during my training as a college and young people counsellor with The Exchange in Swansea at Gower College.
I am currently researching an MA into the clinical use of psychedelics in psychotherapy for mental health including the influence of indigenous plant medicine shamanism on this field.
In addition, I am also undertaking a two- year training to become a natural shamanism practitioner.
I also offer eco-therapeutic approaches to therapy with clients who are receptive to working with their issues out in the natural world, as well as mindfulness techniques and guided meditations.

Before starting a regular first full session, I always contract with clients using a simple contract, outlining fees, session timing, payment and cancellation procedures which are subject to regular review by the therapist and/or the client.
I am a registered member of BACP (British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists) and I work within the BACP Ethical Framework (available on request). I also receive monthly supervision as is per requisite for therapists to evolve their own practice ethically.
New paragraph
Zoom requires you to have a computer or smartphone and access to a strong Wi-Fi or 4G signal. It is important to create an account with Zoom before the session begins. Zoom is free and can be downloaded from app stores and can be installed on your computer and/or mobile.
Before a session I will send you an email with a link which you click on and follow the instructions. Zoom will put you into a virtual waiting room once you have signed in and I will then let you in and our session can begin. If you have any problems just give me a call and we can sort it out together.
WhatsApp and Signal are also possible platforms, but the quality of the video is often not as good on these platforms as Zoom, and they therefore require a strong Wi-Fi or 4G connection. However, it is possible to use these apps if preferred.
What is important for online therapy sessions is for you to ensure you have a private space in which to have your session, where you can’t be overheard or interrupted. If using a mobile or handheld device, it is advisable to have it on some sort of stand so that you have your hands free.
Making sure you switch off notifications and turning your phone off to incoming calls and messages is also advisable as these can lead to time wasting distractions during your session. I also ask that clients have a glass of water nearby and some tissues.
If possible, it is also a good idea to allow yourself some time before an online session, as you may need to reflect on how you feel and what you want to talk about the next time we meet. I also advise taking some time after each session, so you have the space to take in what happened and reflect.
Often it is good to leave the room after a session has been completed in order to ‘leave the session behind’ and move on through your day.
